The Year in a Nutshell!

 AUGUST 2010:
Late August brought David’s last year of preschool. This picture was taken on the first day back from summer vacation.  Handsome little devil, he is!

I love this picture - the look on his face somehow reminds me of my brother, Jon.

David had his first experience playing soccer. The season went from July through September. Jason got to coach his team. With dad as coach and some of his best friends on his team he had a pretty good time but isn’t convinced that he loves soccer.  He thinks he wants to play baseball next year so we’ll see how he likes that!

SEPTEMBER:
Early September brought Emily’s first big-girl haircut! What a doll! I was SO scared to cut her hair off but once I did it I wasn’t sure anymore why it had taken me so long to do it! It is so darn cute on her and suits her spunky little personality so well!

September brought…David’s 5th birthday!!!!! Holy cow!!!!
David's birthday 001
He had a little birthday which was race car themed, but this is sadly the only picture I got because the camera died, besides the fact that I had my hands completely full with ten 4-5 year olds!

Happy Birthday to the coolest 5 year old out there!

Every Fall David’s preschool takes a field trip to the fire station. Emily got to come this year.  It was quite the outing. They loved every minute and made out with some pretty good loot!

Also in October we couldn’t miss out on the fun Halloween festivities at Gardner Village. It’s become a tradition to go spend an afternoon there to see all the witches and enjoy one of the last warm days of the season.

For Halloween David was a trash can(are we surprised?!?) and Emily was a bunny. We made David’s costume- he was very specific about how it needed to look, and Emily’s was used by Jason and his siblings when they were little. It was fun for Emily to get to use it too and she was pretty stinkin’ cute!

I don’t think it gets better then a kid as a trash can! People loved it! He got compliments everywhere we went which made him feel so proud. LOVE these kiddos!!!!

DECEMBER:

Emily turned 3!!!
december 10 032
For Emily’s 3rd birthday this year she wanted to have a  princess birthday party so we had all her cute lil’ girlfriends over and decorated crown cookies. It was a bit of a fiasco but they loved it.
december 10 033
Mmm! Doesn’t that look …good??
december 10 042
She had been telling me for weeks before her birthday that she wanted a purple cake with pink stars! Don’t judge me- I’m not a professional cake decorator!

Miss Emily modeling  her dress- up dress while eating a pretend hamburger! (For her birthday she got dress-up clothes, a tea set and pretend food.)

Getting started with the traditional building of the gingerbread house on Christmas Eve. -Pretty sure there’s usually more eating then building going on.
december 10 046
I have no idea why Emily is making this face!
december 10 048
Beautiful. Who wouldn’t want to live there?!
december 10 049
This is the Milk and cookies and a carrot left out for Santa and Rudolph on Christmas Eve. David drew that picture and insisted I give it to Santa. I told him the next day that I did, but unfortunately when he saw this picture with the leftovers from Santa’s snacking he saw that the picture he drew was still there. He immediately questioned me. Crap!!! I stumbled my way through it and changed the subject really quickly. Apparently I need to pay more attention to little details. Who knew…he’s 5!!

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF MY BABIES:
We were at Jason’s soft ball game and David was rolling around in the grass. I told him he needed to stop because he was getting grass stain on his clothes. He argued that it was ok that he was getting grass stain. I said, “No it’s not David, it doesn’t come out”, and he replied, “Yes it does mom, you just need that special OxyClean.”!!!

Emily fell off her bike and scraped her knee. While I was putting a band aid on it she said, “Mommy I’m braving.” I said, “You are?!”, “Yeah, I’m brave-ded.”!!

On the way home from picking David up from preschool I asked him if he had a good day. He replied, “Yeah, I saw Nia (his long time crush). She’s my girlfriend and I’m her boyfriend. A while ago we had a fight for some reason but now we’re getting back together.”

David: “Mom, I pretty much know everything.”

Emily: “Grrrr! Mom! Those onions are spicy in my eyes!!” (As I was chopping onions)

David: “Eeeeew!! MOM!!! Emily bless you-ed on me!!!”

Jason was teasing David when he asked if we could use the money in his piggy bank to buy our dinner. David was serious when he replied, “No, I’m saving to buy a garbage truck.”

Emily: “Mom, when can I have kids?” and “Mom, when can I go to beauty school?”

We were watching a show with three sisters who all had braces and Emily asked, "Why do those girls have necklace's on their teeth?"
So most people know about David's obsession with waste management. Well it doesn't stop there!  He's equally obsessed with infomercials. He gets sucked in to every item, convinced we should buy it and he's always happy to explain to me why. Most recently  it was the "Packit". It's a lunch sac. He told me he needs it for kindergarten because “traditional lunchboxes only keep food fresh for 2 hours.”
Emily is only 3 but she is truly a woman. One morning after trying to decide what to have for breakfast she came to me frustrated and said in a whiny voice, “I don’t  know what to have mom, I just want something with chocolate." Ahahaha!! A girl after my own heart!

All about Emily:
Emily loves: Talking, changing her clothes…constantly, wearing her swimsuit- and not just at the pool,  trying on all of her friend’s shoes, clothes, dresses, pajamas, swimsuits-you name it, doing daddy’s hair, playing “mom and kid”, and watching me put on make-up!
Her favorite foods? “Goda(granola) bars, fruit snacks, green pepper(seriously??), pizza, salad and tortillas.

All about David:
David loves: Wednesdays- TRASH DAY!!!!, riding his bike, building insanely awesome things with Legos, playing Angry Birds, playing “Dad and kid” with Emily, “inventing”(building) things out of boxes, writing the names of everyone in our family, watching infomercials, and camping!
His favorite foods? shredded pork sandwiches, salmon, applesauce, peanut butter and “smooshmellow”(marshmallow fluff) sandwiches, hot dogs, candy, junk, hot dogs, candy, junk….

Going, Going, Gone....

*What?? Two posts in one day? I’m on a roll! After getting caught up on the last 6 months I realized I really wanted to document Emily’s tonsillectomy. It was only 3 days ago and she was so brave.*
My baby got her tonsils out- finally. She did an amazing job with the whole thing. I am so proud of her. We had been talking to her for a while trying to prepare her but with her little 2 yr old mind I wasn't sure how much she was really understanding. I took her to the hospital to their little tour so she could get familiar with things there. I think that helped. They gave her a doll with a little hospital gown on and they let her draw the face on. She loves it(I personally find it a bit scary, but whatever.). They told her several times that she got to eat lots and lots of Popsicles so she was sure at that point that this was going to be a pretty sweet deal! After the surgery was over the doctor came out and told us all had gone well. Dr. Heras said that her condition had been life threatening. She said Emily's adenoids were so huge they were touching and completely blocking her nasal passage. Scary!!! She said if Emily would have gotten an especially bad cold she could have died. She already had sleep apnea and that would have just complicated things. I'm so glad it's over and done and to know now that she can sleep undisturbed and safely has given me much peace of mind. Seeing her coming out of the anesthesiology was probably the most entertaining part of the day. She was like a little drunk 2 yr. old. It was hilarious! By mid afternoon she was feeling great. We spent quite a while walking the halls. She found a little bike in the toy room and was peddling her little legs as fast as they could go while I ran behind her with her IV pole!!! I'm so mad I didn't get a picture of that. We are on the 3rd day out from surgery now and we're already counting down to when we can resume normal activity. She hasn't liked being held back from the things she wants to do. She's been begging all day "Let's go, mom!!". She's got cabin fever!
Excuse her messy face and shirt on inside out and backwards- she dressed herself that day!

Eeew! Poor thing. The days of my little Darth Vader are about to come to an end.

I bought her this new outfit with Minnie Mouse(one of her current obsessions)to wear on the day of her surgery. She was so excited to finally wear it!

So stinking cute! She was happy as a little clam that morning and looking so beautiful to me. It was breaking my heart thinking about what she was about to have to endure and knowing that she was still pretty clueless about it.

Showing her "pretty"(yikes) hospital doll to the receptionist.

Not happy that I just told her we have to take the Minnie shirt off and change into her surgery clothes.

The sadness was short-lived. This might be the cutest thing I've ever seen. Such a little squirt in her "hospital dress"!

I just love her. Soon after this they took her for surgery. I bawled my eyes out and then in 40 minutes it was over. She's a champ, this little gal. As I am typing this I'm listening to the sweet and unusually quiet sound of her napping. Consistent breaths with no apnea. Music to my ears!

It’s Been a LONG Time…

So I have some catching up to do- to say the least. When I went to see where I left off at my last post I couldn’t believe I had to go clear back to Christmas. Geez! So here we go:
In December Emily turned 2! I feel bad that her birthday is so close to Christmas because we’re usually so busy with holiday festivities that her birthday doesn’t get as much attention as it should. None the less, we had a little celebration where she opened Tinkerbell underoos, some new clothes and some new books. She insisted on wearing this flower headband during dinner and cake. I think it makes her look like the Statue of Liberty!! She’s a riot and so much fun to have around. She’s a very social kid and sometimes drives her brother crazy with her antics. It has been so fun this past year to see her grow and watch she and David become the best of little friends. They would be lost without each other.

Then on to Christmas..
We started a tradition this year of making a gingerbread house on Christmas Eve. David could hardly handle saving the candy long enough to decorate the house!
I tried to get fancy for breakfast on Christmas morning.

I love this picture- she just opened some lotion out of her stocking and she was so excited to use it on her hands!

Gettin’ down to business!

David was pretty pleased to get his first set of Legos.

This was like a dream come true for David. And I mean that in the most literal sense!! I don’t think there could have been anything else that would have brought him more happiness than this garbage truck. Too bad it broke like the next day. Doesn’t stop him- he STILL plays with this thing on a daily basis( here we are in July!)!!

In April came Easter- and a chilly one it was.

Goofy girls at the Easter egg hunt. Em and her lil friend Megan.

On Easter morning we hid the kid’s Easter baskets. Emily just spotted them behind the chair in the living room. Her big eyes crack me up!

Can’t complain when your kid is stoked to get applesauce in her
Easter basket!

Having a little fun with some confetti eggs courtesy of Grandma!

All dressed up in their Easter garb.

Some random, cute, and silly pictures from the last 6 months:

I just love these two little ones. They are the best of friends… most of the time.

Jason will want to kill me for including this picture but over the winter he grew a beard…and surprisingly I thought it was so cute!! Haha! I’m sure many will tease that it’s the Maine in me- liking that back woods, rugged look! Whatever…I can think it’s cute if I want… :)

What. The. Heck. Hahaha!!!!!! How can you look at this picture and not laugh?!?!

I love these bath shots of the kiddos. I think it’ll be cute to pull them out when they’re teenagers. I hope they’ll still be having fun together when they get to be that old.

Hey- that’s just how she rolls. They always have to be upside down. She thinks she’s pretty hot!

Um…by the looks of those wheels Ems…you’re a little too big for that DOLL stroller!

This picture is hysterical!! She's wearing David’s pajama shorts(Wall-E, in fact), a tank top (that has a princess on the front but you can’t see it!) and chugging down her sippy full of- get this- DIET COKE!!!!! LOL!!! Oh my gosh! So hilarious!! (*Disclaimer: I personally did not fill her cup with DC. She found an open can in the fridge and helped herself. Hey- where there’s a will there’s a way!!)

The thought of frost bite in the “upper region” does not sound like a good time- but hey- they were up for it!

eEmily wishing she was still tiny! Goof ball!

My silly children. The first time Emily set eyes on that skull hat she insisted on wearing it and kept right on wearing it all winter.

Well- I can explain…sort of. I told David to be a big boy and go pick some pajamas out of his top drawer and get ready for bed. This is what he came out in, complete with the socks. Hey, it’s cool- whatever! Oh, and in this picture he’s also flexing his muscles!!! Lol! I love this kid!

I finally discovered that pretty much the only way I could get Emily to sit through a movie was by buckling her into her car seat!! … Just kidding! Kind of. Anyway, her car seat had been in the living room for some reason and she thought it made for a comfy way to sit back and get cozy.

Emily wearing Bumpa’s sunglasses!

Hmm. I have no clue how she pulled this off…

May:
Come May it was clearly time to move Emily out of the crib and into a big girl bed…but…

…it didn’t go well at first! There were quite a few nights she chose a random spot in the house over said “big girl bed”. She was not a fan in the beginning but we are finally adjusted.

AND….
David busted out his big kid skills and learned to ride a bike with OUT training wheels!!! Wa-hoo!! Talk about a happy and very proud boy- he literally had to show and tell every. single. person. we knew!! We were SO proud of him too- he learned all on his own!

And here we are in July:
Emily sitting with Grandma at the Provo 4th of July parade. It was so cold that morning they had to sit in the sun to keep warm.

This is how well my attempt at a fun picture at the parade went. :)

Me and my sweet girl

My handsome boy keeping warm with a blanket. It was pretty strange that we were freezing at the 4th of July parade.

Well, there's the last 6 months for ya! Lastly, here are some of the funny words Emily uses:
Hanitizer (sanitizer)
Goda Bar (Granola Bar
Pamps (pants)
Scostcos (Costco)
Bunzins (buns/bum)
