NO more binky?? Could it be?...

Well, it has definitely been interesting! It all started on Friday morning. At some point during his play David misplaced his binky. Nap time rolled around and we still hadn't found it. I searched and searched and just couldn't find it anywhere. David was getting upset because he knew that meant he would have to nap without it. He just kept saying "find it mommy" over and over. I finally put him down and promised to keep looking. By now he was in a full on melt down. After a few minutes I just happened upon it but was faced with the dilemma of whether or not I should really go give it to him. He was after all surviving but his on going cries for me to find it coming from his room were wearing on me. Just then I remembered a trick that lots of friends have told me about. Cut the tip off. So I did. I figured at least he would have the comfort of having it but maybe it just wouldn't be so comfortable now. I ran into my room, grabbed the scissors and whacked off the end. I opened David's door (wounded binky in hand) and said "HHH? Look David, I found it- but it's broken!" His sobs came to a halt and he happily grabbed his binky from my hand. He popped it in his mouth, but quickly pushed it out onto the floor with his tongue. A look of absolute disgust came over his face. He picked up the binky, looked right at my face and said accusingly "MOMMY CUT IT!" Oh my gosh, I was mortified. He took off running out of his room toward the office yelling "Fix it Daddy! Mommy broke it!" Jason was trying so hard not to laugh and all I could do was stand there with my face in my hands.... ...the plan totally back fired! We ended up just having a talk with him, explaining that none of his friends (listing them by name) had a binky anymore. "They are big kids and now it was time for David to be a big kid. Binkies are for babies, that's why Emily has one." I think all of this left him terribly frustrated because he told me "I don't want to be a big boy." After another hour of complete meltdown he finally fell asleep. That night I was dreading bedtime like you wouldn't believe. Binkies just make life easier! While I was changing his diaper he said out of the blue "My binky is broken. What are you going to do about it?? Buy a new one at the store! Oh please?!" After some encouraging words about how we were so proud of him for taking his nap without his binky, he FINALLY fell asleep around midnight! I am happy to report that it's now Sunday and he hasn't said a word about it since yesterday morning. He went to bed just fine last night. I really am proud of him, what an ordeal. Well... .... ....Potty Training- here we come!!

All tuckered out! The weather was really nice yesterday so Jason and I took the kids to the park for a picnic. After lunch Jason and David played on the play equipment and Emily and I watched (she can't quite reach the monkey bars yet). We had so much fun and it was nice to be out soaking in the sun. Afterward, we went to Wal Mart for some groceries where David got a balloon. On the way home he was so tired out from his adventures and from lack of sleep due to his broken binkey that he passed out in his car seat. Poor thing.

" Hi Nana and Bumpa!"
David, Emily and I went outside the other day to do bubbles. It was so nice out. Emily seemed so excited to get some fresh air and have some new fun stuff to look at.

Breakfast of champions...

This started my day off with a good laugh! A few mornings ago Emily woke up to eat and instead of going back to bed after feeding her I decided to go to the store to grab some Milk for breakfast. When I left, Jason and David were both still sleeping. When I returned I walked in the house and noticed David's door was open and his blankie was on the floor right outside the door... ...not a good sign. If he had woken up and gone into our bedroom to climb into bed with Jason he would have definitely taken his blanket, so seeing this only suggested he was somewhere in the house getting into trouble. I cringed at the thought as I entered the office (the whole shredding of our credit cards scenario flooding my mind). As I walked into the office I was surprised to not see him anywhere. I suddenly heard giggling and turned my head in the direction of the desk. There he was! Big as you please, eating raw, cold Hot Dogs!

YES! That is in fact FORMULA!!! A brand new can, no less! Oh, that little stinker! I don't know what his fascination is with powdery substances. Flour...Baby Powder...now Formula? Our friends Jen and Eric came over last weekend so Eric and Jason could go to Priesthood together. Jen and I hung out while their little girl Megan played with David. Of course, we left them to play without supervision for a whole 3 minutes and came out in the kitchen to find this! David has corrupted yet another little innocent child! Watch out Jen-Megan knows the ropes now. You're in for it! David was happy as a clam driving his truck through "the snow" and Megan was content just playing with the empty can!

I was getting ready for the day in my bathroom when David wandered into my closet. I knew he was in there so I hurried to finish my hair so I could go see what he was into. He had found my bucket of pictures and was so interested in every one of them. He had spread them all out on the floor in front of him and was talking to himself, announcing who (if he knew) was in the picture and what they were doing. I stood back and watched him for a minute. It was so cute! He would say "That's my Mommy. That's my Daddy." Once he realized I was there I was bombarded with "Who's him, Mommy?" and "What's him doing?" The picture bucket has become his new favorite pass time.

Emily's blessing

Last Sunday Jason blessed Emily. He gave her the sweetest blessing (Thank you Debbie for taking notes). This blessing dress was actually made by Jason's Grandma Skinrood. Jason wore it when he was blessed and so did David. It has been so special to use something that has been passed through the family. I am so grateful Jason's mom has taken such good care of it. Emily looked absolutely beautiful. One of the men in the circle said at one point during the blessing he peaked at her, surprised that she wasn't fussing. He said she was smiling big and her happy arms and legs were going! That's our Emily!

Didn't she look so sweet? Oh, I just love this dress!

This was the only family picture we got. David was mad because he had to stop eating Doritos. If you look close you can probably see the orange gunk all over his face.
