NO more binky?? Could it be?...

Well, it has definitely been interesting! It all started on Friday morning. At some point during his play David misplaced his binky. Nap time rolled around and we still hadn't found it. I searched and searched and just couldn't find it anywhere. David was getting upset because he knew that meant he would have to nap without it. He just kept saying "find it mommy" over and over. I finally put him down and promised to keep looking. By now he was in a full on melt down. After a few minutes I just happened upon it but was faced with the dilemma of whether or not I should really go give it to him. He was after all surviving but his on going cries for me to find it coming from his room were wearing on me. Just then I remembered a trick that lots of friends have told me about. Cut the tip off. So I did. I figured at least he would have the comfort of having it but maybe it just wouldn't be so comfortable now. I ran into my room, grabbed the scissors and whacked off the end. I opened David's door (wounded binky in hand) and said "HHH? Look David, I found it- but it's broken!" His sobs came to a halt and he happily grabbed his binky from my hand. He popped it in his mouth, but quickly pushed it out onto the floor with his tongue. A look of absolute disgust came over his face. He picked up the binky, looked right at my face and said accusingly "MOMMY CUT IT!" Oh my gosh, I was mortified. He took off running out of his room toward the office yelling "Fix it Daddy! Mommy broke it!" Jason was trying so hard not to laugh and all I could do was stand there with my face in my hands.... ...the plan totally back fired! We ended up just having a talk with him, explaining that none of his friends (listing them by name) had a binky anymore. "They are big kids and now it was time for David to be a big kid. Binkies are for babies, that's why Emily has one." I think all of this left him terribly frustrated because he told me "I don't want to be a big boy." After another hour of complete meltdown he finally fell asleep. That night I was dreading bedtime like you wouldn't believe. Binkies just make life easier! While I was changing his diaper he said out of the blue "My binky is broken. What are you going to do about it?? Buy a new one at the store! Oh please?!" After some encouraging words about how we were so proud of him for taking his nap without his binky, he FINALLY fell asleep around midnight! I am happy to report that it's now Sunday and he hasn't said a word about it since yesterday morning. He went to bed just fine last night. I really am proud of him, what an ordeal. Well... .... ....Potty Training- here we come!!

All tuckered out! The weather was really nice yesterday so Jason and I took the kids to the park for a picnic. After lunch Jason and David played on the play equipment and Emily and I watched (she can't quite reach the monkey bars yet). We had so much fun and it was nice to be out soaking in the sun. Afterward, we went to Wal Mart for some groceries where David got a balloon. On the way home he was so tired out from his adventures and from lack of sleep due to his broken binkey that he passed out in his car seat. Poor thing.

" Hi Nana and Bumpa!"
David, Emily and I went outside the other day to do bubbles. It was so nice out. Emily seemed so excited to get some fresh air and have some new fun stuff to look at.

Oh wow, good job David!! I'm already nervous for when Max has to part ways with his binky. That picture of Emily is so adorable! What a smile :)

That is funny. Cooper was so attached to his binki too, but after one miserable night he no longer needed it. The worst is behind you. Good luck potty training. It is SO nice when they go potty all by themselves.

Totally been there, done that. It is hard. Tori had hers till she was almost three, and I finally had to take them away from Abbie and her in order to break her of it. Abbie went to bottle tops and I had to do the broken thing too, that's a great story Lindy. My email is investin@mac.com :)

Good job on the bread it looks awesome. I don't know what to think about the comment, "If Jaci can do it why can't I?" Like I'm so bad at cooking but I figured it out.... Just kidding. I'm still going to bring you some raisin juice and gluten.

K, the binkie, you're so brave! I just don't care if Asher ever stops taking it at this point. Maybe that just means we're not ready. He just is so good with it in the car and at night. Although I had to climb under his crib to grab it at 4am this morning:(

Taking away the binky was pretty tramatic for Jake too. We tried cutting off the end but somehow he still found a way to keep it in his mouth. Sometimes you can't win!

I am so proud of you for cutting the tip of the binky off and for not just buying another one! Good Mama. Potty trianing? I think the 'sit down and pee backwards' works the best. Less clean up for the next 3 years till he can aim.

Good job Mom! I just can't do it. Gabriela kept having a problem losing her pacifier in the middle of the night and would come wake us up to go find it for her. Miguel finally tied it too her bed. The only way she can have it is to go lay down and as she says, "take a little rest." I'm hoping she will eventually lose interest, because with 3 munchkins already taking turns crying, I don't think I could handle the breakdown resulting from discarding the pacifier. You are an inspiration. Your daughter is adorable, I'm glad to see you guys doing so well.

No more binky?! I've heard thats a milestone, way to go! I've heard the same about potty training, but some people say thats a little easier. Good luck!

I love banana bread! I haven't had it forever...it makes me miss living with my parents and being so close to my Grandma. No pun intended, some people just have the baking/cooking knack. Props to you Lind!

Way to be strong Lindy. I bet it was so hard to do, but it will be rewarding in the end. Both of your kids are so cute. It sounds like you had a great time with the family.

How's it going now with the binki? I can't believe you took the leap of faith and actually cut it. Good on you.
